Shyam Steel’s ₹15,000-Crore Push to Create 20,000 Jobs

Shyam Steel Group’s mega projects, with the foundation stone expected to be laid by CM Suvendu Adhikari, are set to generate employment for 20,000 people with an investment of ₹15,000 crore, the biggest in terms of investment and jobs announced since BJP came to office in Bengal. The group has an annual turnover of over ₹10,000 crore and directly employs more than 25,000 people.

Shyam Steel Director Lalit Beriwal said the group is setting up an integrated steel plant in Bankura’s Mejia with a production capacity of 2 MTPA at an estimated cost of ₹10,000 crore. “The project has the potential to become one of the most significant manufacturing investments in the industrial history of Bengal. Upon implementation, it is expected to generate approximately 15,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while further strengthening the state’s industrial ecosystem,” he said. The plant would increase the group’s capacity to 3.5 MTPA.

Beyond the steel plant, Shyam Steel Group has proposed investments of around ₹5,000 crore across defence manufacturing, real estate, industrial townships, fabrication, paints and industrial coatings, infrastructure, construction chemicals, and engineering sectors expected to create another 5,000 jobs.
