ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has reiterated plans for a 24 million tonne per annum integrated steel facility at Hazira, Gujarat, positioning the proposed complex as the world’s largest single-location integrated steel plant, with capacity targeted by 2029. AMNS CEO Amit Harlalka presented the plans during a high-level meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Mumbai, held as part of the curtain-raiser to the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.
The steel expansion is backed by a renewable energy project at Bhachau involving over $900 million in solar, wind, and battery storage infrastructure, aimed at supporting the Hazira complex’s transition toward lower-carbon steel production.
Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra separately held discussions with the Chief Minister on electric vehicle ecosystem development in Gujarat, including EV infrastructure, assembly capabilities, and an expanded presence in GIFT City. Hindalco Industries discussed copper recycling and greener manufacturing investments, Swan Energy outlined maritime logistics expansion plans, and Welspun World presented proposals spanning technical textiles and green supply chains.
