Shyam Metallics Signs MoU for Maharashtra Steel Plant

Shyam Metallics & Energy Limited has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Maharashtra to set up a 9 MTPA greenfield integrated steel complex in the Chandrapur district of the Vidarbha region, with an estimated investment of ₹50,000 crore. The project marks a significant geographic expansion for the company beyond its traditional eastern India strongholds.

The proposed facility is expected to generate approximately 30,000 jobs, comprising 10,000 direct and 20,000 indirect roles. It will add 9 MTPA to the company’s current combined aggregate metal capacity of 16.93 MTPA, marking a potential expansion of approximately 53 per cent upon full commercialisation.

The integrated complex will house facilities for pelletisation, sintering, coke making, blast furnace operations, Direct Reduced Iron, steel melting and continuous casting. The Maharashtra state government, represented by Dr. P. Anbalagan, IAS, will facilitate the necessary statutory approvals and policy incentives for the project.
