India is planning to establish 100 industrial parks with modern plug-and-play infrastructure across the country under the BHAVYA scheme, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said at an ACMA event in New Delhi. He also suggested creating a dedicated industrial park for US-India investments, with some parks focused specifically on auto component manufacturing.
The Union Cabinet had approved the Rs 33,660 crore Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojna in March for developing 100 plug-and-play industrial parks, aimed at creating world-class infrastructure and boosting manufacturing capacity. The government is seeking applications from states for the first 50 parks, with the first phase targeted for rollout over the next three years. The parks are expected to cover 100 to 1,000 acres, providing infrastructure and clearances needed for businesses to begin operations quickly.
Goyal said countries could consider setting up enclaves within these parks, proposing that one could be dedicated to a US-India partnership, with two to five parks potentially developed for auto components with infrastructure tailored to industry requirements. He noted India was separately developing 20 industrial and smart cities, citing Toyota’s acquisition of around 800 acres in Maharashtra and the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem developing in Dholera and Sanand, Gujarat.
Goyal also urged auto component companies to move up the value chain, strengthen supply chains and establish stronger global presence, targeting the sector’s growth toward a $500 billion global industry goal from its current $50 billion international trade base. He noted strong domestic steel consumption driven by the auto sector, with India currently importing more steel than it exports.
British Deputy High Commissioner Harjinder Kang said the India-UK trade pact would help deepen automotive supply chains, highlighting UK capabilities in advanced engineering and zero-emission vehicle technologies.
