Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, inaugurated the steel bridge at Chanchalguda in Hyderabad, addressing the gathering during the ceremony.
Commuters travelling from Chanchalguda Printing Press to IS Sadan currently take around 30 minutes during peak hours due to traffic congestion. The flyover is expected to reduce travel time to around five minutes. The 3.32-km flyover, built at a cost of Rs 620 crore with four lanes, is being inaugurated after a four-year delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and land acquisition issues.
The flyover begins near Chanchalguda Printing Press and extends to Santoshnagar, with the main ramp running from Chanchalguda to Yadagiri Theatre. It also features an up-ramp at Saidabad and a down-ramp at IS Sadan. The facility is expected to benefit employees of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Defence Electronics Research Laboratory and other establishments under the Union defence ministry who use the Chanchalguda road regularly.
A local resident, Md. Naveed from Akbarbagh, said the flyover would help commuters travelling from Malakpet to Chandrayangutta skip the Chanchalguda, Saidabad, Madannapet and IS Sadan junctions, which have long experienced heavy traffic jams. Passenger Unit Count on the corridor is projected to rise from 70,576 in 2015 to 1,93,632 by 2035.
