Vraj Iron and Steel Limited has approved a ₹450 crore greenfield integrated steel plant in Chapka, Bastar, Chhattisgarh, aimed at doubling its sponge iron and mild steel billet capacities while transitioning to more sustainable, integrated operations.
The facility will add 201,000 TPA capacity each for sponge iron and mild steel billets, on top of existing capacities of 235,500 TPA and 210,600 TPA respectively. The project also integrates a 30 MW captive power plant, comprising 15 MW Waste Heat Recovery Boiler and 15 MW CFBC power plants, designed to lower energy costs and cushion the company from raw material price volatility.
The company’s board approved the takeover of project land in Bastar from promoter and holding company Gopal Sponge and Power to expedite development. Vraj has also introduced solar power into its captive energy mix, commissioning a 15 MWp solar plant in Bemetara in December 2025, with an additional 21 MWp plant proposed for FY27.
Standalone revenue from operations for FY26 rose 23.76 per cent year-on-year to ₹587.92 crore, though standalone profit after tax declined 29.41 per cent to ₹29.53 crore due to increased raw material costs and higher depreciation. The Bastar project is expected to be commissioned within a 30-month timeline.
