Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, announced that the newly modernised Jalandhar Cantt railway station will be ready for public use by the first quarter of next year. The Rs 99 crore redevelopment project includes separate arrival and departure areas, escalators, improved natural lighting, and a gold-rated green building.
Additionally, the Ludhiana-Jalandhar section will benefit from automatic block signaling, approved at a cost of Rs 71.25 crore, to enhance operational efficiency. Plans are also underway to install the KAVACH Train Collision Avoidance System across 1,513 kilometers to bolster safety and prevent accidents.
The redevelopment is expected to significantly improve passenger comfort and safety while modernizing infrastructure to support growing demands. This project aligns with the Railways’ commitment to sustainable development, integrating advanced technologies, and promoting eco-friendly practices to create efficient and green transportation hubs.
This initiative is part of a broader Rs 270 crore investment aimed at redeveloping 12 railway stations in Punjab.
