Maharashtra Attracts $300 Billion Data Centre Investment Interest

Maharashtra has drawn investment interest exceeding $300 billion in the data centre segment, with the state already accounting for 66 per cent of India’s installed data centre capacity, according to Kaustubh Dhavse, Chief Advisor for Investments and Strategy to the Chief Minister. Addressing the Naredco Real Estate and Infrastructure Investors’ Summit 2026 in Mumbai, Dhavse projected the state’s data centre capacity reaching 5.7 gigawatts by 2032, describing the sector as a principal driver of Maharashtra’s next growth cycle.

The state is simultaneously advancing several large-scale development initiatives, Mumbai 3.0, a planned urban expansion covering 336 square kilometres; a healthcare city anchored by Cleveland Clinic across 165 acres; and a 210-acre education hub targeting 12 overseas universities, with seven agreements already concluded.

Maharashtra, currently a $660 billion economy, has set a $1 trillion GDP target by 2030, requiring annual growth of approximately 13.8 per cent against the 10.2 per cent averaged over the past seven years. Separately, Naredco Chairman Niranjan Hiranandani flagged a shortage of 2 million skilled construction workers, with 5 million more needed over the next five years as a structural constraint on the sector’s ability to sustain its projected 15 per cent growth this year.
