Maharashtra is planning to develop Gadchiroli as a global hub for green steel production, Marketing and Protocol Minister Jaykumar Rawal has said. The state’s MoU with John Cockerill India Ltd is expected to bring green technologies, investment, employment and skill development to the region, with the formal exchange of the agreement scheduled for September 4.
Rawal said the MoU was not merely an industrial investment agreement but the foundation for an ambitious plan to transform Gadchiroli into a global centre for green steel manufacturing, bringing advanced green technologies, large-scale investment and skill development to the region.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra has emerged as a leading destination for global investment, advanced technology and sustainable industrial development, Rawal said, adding that the state’s development strategy focuses on balanced and inclusive regional growth. The Gadchiroli project, he noted, could become the foundation for the district’s broader industrial transformation, combining Vidarbha’s natural and mineral resources with environment-friendly production processes.
Rawal said Maharashtra was strengthening international industrial partnerships through its Protocol, Foreign Direct Investment and Overseas Indian Affairs-related initiatives, and that the partnership with John Cockerill would help the state strengthen its position in green steel production and exports globally. The formal MoU exchange on September 4 will take place in the presence of the Prime Minister of Belgium, lending the partnership greater international visibility.
The state government will provide necessary approvals, policy incentives and an industry-friendly ecosystem for the project, with special emphasis on developing skills among local youth.
