Nou Mestalla Stadium, Valencia, Spain

After years of anticipation, one of European football’s most storied clubs is finally writing the next chapter of its history in steel and concrete. Valencia CF has resumed construction on the Nou Mestalla, a world-class stadium set to redefine the sporting and cultural landscape of one of Spain’s most vibrant cities, with completion targeted for the summer of 2027.

With a seating capacity of 70,044, the Nou Mestalla will rank among Europe’s largest and most technically advanced football venues, designed to host top-tier FIFA and UEFA competitions as well as major entertainment events. Valencia CF has brought together an exceptional team to deliver this vision. Fenwick Iribarren Architects, renowned for designing three stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, lead the design, while FCC Construcción, the company behind the Metropolitano Stadium, the RCDE Stadium, and the landmark renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu, oversees construction.

At the structural heart of the project is the stadium’s defining feature, a sweeping 4,800-tonne steel roof engineered to shelter all 70,044 seats from both sun and rain while enhancing acoustic performance from the stands to the pitch. The roof is supported by 50 S355 steel pillars, fabricated and assembled by Horta Coslada, a leading Spanish specialist in metal structures with an impressive portfolio that includes the roofs of the Santiago Bernabéu, San Mamés, Stade Vélodrome, and the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The primary pillars feature rectangular closed sections of 1,200 x 760 mm and 1,400 x 850 mm, reinforced with longitudinal and transverse stiffeners, forming the principal columns of the stadium’s facade.

Beyond its structural ambition, the Nou Mestalla is equally committed to sustainability. Octopus Energy, a Sustainable Founding Partner of the club, will install a photovoltaic solar panel system across the exterior perimeter of the roof, transforming it into an active source of green energy and positioning the stadium as an environmental benchmark for sports venues across Europe.

With over 6,500 hospitality seats, cutting-edge fan amenities, and a design philosophy rooted in visibility, safety, and comfort, the Nou Mestalla represents far more than a new home for Valencia CF. It is set to become a landmark destination for sport, leisure, and innovation, a stadium that the city of Valencia can carry as a symbol of pride well into the future.
