Bullet Train Progress: 359 Km Viaducts, 453 Km Piers Done

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is progressing steadily, with significant gains recorded across viaducts, track infrastructure, electrification, bridges and tunnels, according to the latest update from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited.

According to the agency’s progress update, pier work has been completed over 453 km and viaduct construction over 359 km. Reinforced concrete track bed construction has been completed over 215 km, with 91 km of track slabs laid and Cement Asphalt Mortar injection completed.

Electrification infrastructure has expanded with over 9,000 Overhead Equipment masts installed across 200 km of the corridor. Noise barriers have been installed along 297 km of the alignment, while 17 river bridges and 15 steel bridges have been completed. In Maharashtra, four mountain tunnels have been excavated, with 5 km of tunnel constructed using the NATM method.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said India’s first bullet train will begin its inaugural 100-km run between Surat and Vapi in August 2027, ahead of the full 508-km Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor becoming operational by December 2029. Once complete, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad journey will take 1 hour 58 minutes with four stops, or 2 hours 17 minutes if halting at all 12 stations, with trains operating at speeds up to 320 kmph.
