The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has proposed a ₹702.44 crore subterranean pedestrian vestibule designed to directly connect the Mahalaxmi Metro Station area on Metro Line 3 to the Mumbai Coastal Road promenade at Worli.
Spanning between 3.5 and 4 kilometres, the underground corridor aims to provide safe, weather-protected multimodal integration for commuters transitioning between the city’s underground metro network and the seafront promenade.
The project will be implemented by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd under Transit-Oriented Development guidelines, connecting the Science Centre/Mahalaxmi Racecourse Metro station on Line 3 to the Coastal Road Worli promenade. Funds will be released in phases by the BMC, with costs slated for recovery through TOD Premium collected under DCPR 2034.
The proposal also involves relaxing standard tendering rules under Section 92 of the MMC Act, 1888, subject to final standing committee approval.
