SAIL Accelerates Bokaro Steel Plant Modernisation: Minister

Union Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has said that Steel Authority of India Limited is working on a war footing for the modernisation and expansion of steel plants, with the expansion of Bokaro Steel Plant to 7.4 million tonnes progressing at a fast pace.

Addressing the media at Bokaro Airport during his tour of Jharkhand, he said a target of 300 million tonnes of steel production by 2030 has been set. The Minister noted that the Ministry is investing more than Rs 15,000 crore in brownfield areas, with over Rs 6,000 crore planned for mining areas, while also stressing the need for enhanced efficiency and sustainability.

Minister of State for Steel Bhupathiraju Srinivas Varma and SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash accompanied the minister on visits to indigenous automated blast furnaces, collieries, washeries and the steel melting shop. During the tour, Kumaraswamy also visited Chasnalla Washery and Tasra coal mines and held a review meeting with senior officials of Bokaro Steel Plant.
