Railways, BPCL Join Hands for Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal in Jammu

Indian Railways has partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited to develop a Gati Shakti multi modal cargo terminal at Bajalta, aimed at strengthening fuel logistics and freight efficiency in the region.

The agreement, signed by officials from the Jammu division and BPCL, marks a step forward in integrating rail infrastructure with energy supply chains under the Gati Shakti framework. The terminal is expected to streamline the movement of petroleum products while improving coordination between railways and public sector entities.

Designed with a storage capacity of 109,225 kilolitres, the facility will handle up to two rakes at a time, enabling a monthly throughput of nearly 162,000 metric tonnes. Modern tank wagons will be deployed to ensure safe and efficient handling operations.

Officials indicated that the terminal is nearing completion and is likely to be operational by the end of the month, boosting regional trade flows and reinforcing last-mile fuel distribution in Jammu.
