Span Launch Begins on Nagpur Metro Phase II Final Section

The construction of Nagpur Metro Phase II has entered a crucial stage with the commencement of span erection on the final section of Reach-4A, stretching from Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar over a distance of 5.31 kilometres. This milestone marks significant progress in extending metro connectivity to the eastern parts of the city.

A notable feature of this phase is the integration of a double-decker structure, where the metro line runs above a flyover. This design not only optimises space in a densely built corridor but also ensures seamless connectivity for both road and rail commuters. Such an approach is expected to improve traffic management and enhance urban mobility in one of Nagpur’s busiest stretches.

The first span of this section has been erected using 28.5 tonnes of Fe550D steel, underlining the material’s vital role in supporting complex urban infrastructure. The use of Fe550D steel, known for its high strength and durability, is essential in ensuring the stability and long-term resilience of the structure. Engineers involved in the project have highlighted that the choice of steel was critical to meeting safety standards while maintaining cost efficiency.

The project’s progress has been welcomed as a step towards improving public transport options and reducing road congestion. Once operational, the extended metro line is expected to offer faster, safer, and more reliable travel for thousands of daily commuters.

Observers point out that projects like Nagpur Metro Phase II demonstrate the close relationship between steel and modern infrastructure. Beyond its functional role, steel enables innovative designs such as double-decker structures, which maximise efficiency in limited urban spaces. The ongoing work reaffirms the importance of material excellence in shaping India’s next-generation transport systems.
