Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that a large-scale steel plant, with an estimated investment of Rs 40,000 crore, will be jointly developed by JSW and POSCO in the Patna area of Keonjhar district.
Beyond this project, the state government plans to establish additional steel industries across various locations in Keonjhar, bringing the total investment in the district to over Rs one lakh crore.
Earlier this year, on January 28, during the ‘Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave,’ the JSW Group, led by Sajjan Jindal, formalized an agreement with the Odisha government to set up a five million tonnes per annum (MTPA) steel plant in Keonjhar.
This initiative follows a previous agreement signed in October last year between JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO to develop an integrated steel plant in India with an initial capacity of five MTPA. While the specific location for that project has not been disclosed, the latest announcement confirms Keonjhar as the site for their new investment.
