Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in a recent cabinet meeting, greenlit metro projects for four additional cities in the state. The approved cities include Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur. This decision follows the ongoing construction of the Patna Metro, which had its foundation laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019.
The Urban Development and Housing Department’s proposal for these metro rail projects gained approval, with plans now set to prepare feasibility reports followed by detailed project reports (DPR). The funding structure involves the central and state governments covering 20% each, while financial institutions will contribute the remaining 60%.
The initial phase of the Patna Metro aims to make five stations operational by March next year, featuring both elevated and underground tracks. Additionally, the cabinet greenlit a proposal allowing various commissions, such as the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) and Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), to conduct preliminary examinations in two phases if the number of candidates is substantial.
Furthermore, the cabinet sanctioned the conduct of examinations in both online and offline modes and approved the opening of sports clubs in all panchayats across the state, as proposed by the sports department.
