PM Modi Launches Rs 865 Crore New Terminal Building at Jammu Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony for the New Terminal Building (NTB) at Jammu Airport, accompanied by Governor Manoj Sinha and other dignitaries. The Airports Authority of India announced that the state-of-the-art NTB and associated infrastructure, developed at a cost of Rs 865 crore, will enhance the local economy, trade, and tourism in the region.

The New Terminal Building, spanning 40,000 sqm, is designed to accommodate 2,000 passengers during peak hours and serve 40 lakh passengers annually. Complying with GRIHA Five-Star standards, the environmentally friendly terminal will feature amenities such as 54 check-in counters, 16 self-check-in kiosks, 11 X-BIS machines, six aerobridges, four conveyor belts in the arrival hall, F&B and retail outlets, and parking for approximately 700 cars. Accessibility features align with the ‘Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan.’

The airport’s runway supports the operation of Code-C type aircraft, with 13 new parking bays proposed. The NTB’s interiors will showcase local art, paintings, and murals, integrating Jammu City’s culture and heritage. Sustainability features include a double-insulated roofing system, canopies for energy savings, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, and the use of recycled water for landscaping, aiming for GRIHA-V ratings.

Jammu, known as the City of Temples, boasts religious sites, scenic gardens, and rich cultural heritage. The NTB at Jammu Airport aims to blend heritage with modernity, promoting tourism and economic growth in the region.
