Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Expansion Nears Completion

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) expansion is nearing completion, with approximately 99.4% progress reported as of January 25, 2024, according to the Q3FY24 report by GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited. The ongoing extension aims to boost capacity from 12 million to 34 million passengers and is expected to conclude by March 2024, surpassing the 98.7% completion reported as of December 31, 2023.

The Q3FY24 report highlights RGIA’s robust performance in passenger traffic from October to December 2023, with a notable 17% year-on-year increase, reaching 6.3 million passengers compared to 5.4 million in Q3FY23. Domestic traffic rose by 16%, and international traffic surged by 22%, driving overall growth.

In the first nine months of FY24, RGIA served an impressive 18.6 million passengers, reflecting a significant year-on-year increase. The airport’s total income in Q3FY24 stood at Rs 496 crore, marking a 35% YoY growth from Rs 368 crore in Q3FY23. Over nine months, the total income rose by 48% to Rs 1,472 crore in 9MFY24.

Additionally, RGIA has expanded its connectivity, currently linking 66 domestic locations (compared to 55 pre-COVID) and 19 foreign destinations (compared to 16 pre-COVID).
