PM Modi Inaugurates Chennai Metro Phase 2 Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Poonamallee-Vadapalani corridor of Chennai Metro Phase 2, sharing a maiden metro ride with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay from Porur to Poonamallee. State cabinet ministers received the Prime Minister at Porur Metro station.

Developed at an estimated cost of Rs 750 crore, the transit stretch aims to significantly decongest traffic across Western Chennai’s urban belt. During the journey, the Prime Minister interacted with students and construction workers involved in the project. The visit marks his first official visit to Chennai since the present state administration assumed office.

The Prime Minister also visited the Indian Institute of Technology Madras campus, where he inspected the institute’s advanced brain research centre. He dedicated several completed development projects to the nation and laid foundation stones for new infrastructure initiatives across Tamil Nadu. A specialised music training centre set up on the campus in association with composer Ilaiyaraaja was also inaugurated.
