SRTMI Platform Drives Dialogue on Steel Innovation

H. D. Kumaraswamy inaugurated the SRTMI R&D Connect workshop in New Delhi, calling for stronger alignment between research and real-world industrial outcomes in India’s steel sector. Organised by the Steel Research and Technology Mission of India, the platform brought together stakeholders from industry, academia, startups, and government.

Emphasising the sector’s strategic role, the Minister highlighted India’s push towards self-reliance and global competitiveness under Narendra Modi. He pointed to key initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive scheme for specialty steel, alongside emerging programmes like the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the proposed Green Steel Mission, as drivers of sustainable growth.

Kumaraswamy stressed that innovation must translate into implementation, urging industry players to adopt new technologies at scale. He identified circular economy practices, waste utilisation, and green steel as critical focus areas shaping the sector’s future.

The workshop featured startup pitches and technical sessions with participation from leading players, including SAIL, Tata Steel, and JSW Steel, reinforcing a collaborative approach to innovation-led growth.
