Bhilai Steel Plant has crossed 6 million tonnes of hot metal production in FY2025–26, marking a new high in its operational performance.
The plant, operated by Steel Authority of India Limited, achieved this milestone through sustained focus on efficiency, technological upgrades and coordinated execution. The feat is particularly notable as it was accomplished with just four blast furnaces, compared to seven when the plant first crossed 5 million tonnes in 2005–06.
The achievement highlights significant gains in process optimisation, improved furnace productivity and disciplined operations, reinforcing Bhilai’s position as a key contributor to India’s steel output.
On the occasion, Director In-Charge Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra and Executive Director (Works) Rakesh Kumar congratulated the blast furnace teams and stakeholders for their efforts.
The management described the milestone as a benchmark for future growth, noting consistent improvements in furnace performance and encouraging teams to sustain momentum and aim for higher production levels in the coming years.
