In a major boost to railway infrastructure in West Bengal, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today virtually inaugurated the Siuri Road Over Bridge and the Kumarpur Road Over Bridge, and flagged off a new Asansol–Bokaro train service. While speaking at the event, the Minister said that the initiatives represent an important step in strengthening railway infrastructure, enhancing safety, and improving regional connectivity in the state. Highlighting the scale of investment, Mr Vaishnaw said that ₹14,205 crore has been allocated for the Railways in West Bengal this year, which is more than three times the average annual allocation during the 2009–2014 period. He added that railway projects worth around ₹92,000 crore are currently underway in the state and are expected to drive large-scale infrastructural transformation.
Emphasising improved passenger services, the Minister noted that more than a dozen new train services have been introduced to enhance rail connectivity for the people of West Bengal.
