Centre Sanctions ₹14 Cr for Indoor Sports Facility in Mandya

The Centre has sanctioned ₹14 crore under the Khelo India scheme for the construction of a multipurpose indoor sports facility in Mandya district, giving a major boost to local sports infrastructure. The approval came following sustained efforts by Union Minister and Mandya MP H D Kumaraswamy.

The facility will be developed on one acre of land earmarked at the University of Agricultural Sciences’ VC Farm premises. Officials had earlier explored locations within Mandya city limits to ensure better accessibility for youth and sportspersons, but land availability emerged as a key constraint.

The proposed indoor stadium will cater to multiple all-weather sports such as volleyball, badminton, basketball and table tennis, among others. It is aimed at nurturing young talent, encouraging active lifestyles and providing quality training infrastructure for students, youth and the general public.

Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly strengthen Mandya’s sports ecosystem. Kumaraswamy said the stadium could also host national and international events, boosting tourism and contributing to the local economy.
