The Indian Cabinet has approved the Phase 2 expansion of the Hyderabad Metro, marking a significant investment of Rs 24,269 crore aimed at boosting connectivity across this rapidly growing city. This ambitious phase will add approximately 63 kilometers of new track, extending the metro network to densely populated areas like Lakdikapul, BHEL, Miyapur, and Kokapet.

Led by the Telangana government, this expansion seeks to ease road congestion, enhance travel efficiency, and support Hyderabad’s sustainable urban growth. Upon completion, Phase 2 is projected to carry an additional 1.5 million passengers daily. It will seamlessly integrate with the existing Phase 1 network, creating a high-frequency transit service across Hyderabad and encouraging a shift from private vehicles to public transit.

The project will introduce significant technological advancements, including modern signaling systems, energy-efficient trains, and improved passenger amenities, designed to enhance the commuter experience. This reflects the commitment of both the state and central governments to sustainable infrastructure and smart urban mobility, in alignment with Hyderabad’s vision for green city development.

With this expansion, Hyderabad joins a growing list of Indian cities actively investing in metro networks to meet escalating urban demands. The project is expected to boost Hyderabad’s economic vibrancy, reduce air pollution, and improve overall livability by offering efficient and eco-friendly transit options.
