Indian Railways Sanctions ₹263.86 Crore Rail-over-Rail Flyover at Chalisgaon

Indian Railways has sanctioned a ₹263.86 crore Rail-over-Rail flyover at Chalisgaon in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, spanning 10.75 kilometres under Central Railway. The project directly addresses chronic congestion caused by multiple line crossings, particularly for trains originating from the Dhule side, that intersect the busy main lines, a conflict set to intensify as fourth-line development progresses in the section.

The flyover will separate conflicting train movements, saving approximately 15 minutes in the Up direction and 20 minutes in the Down direction, while relieving pressure on the Chalisgaon-Jamdha block section. Section line capacity, currently at 45.4 per cent, is projected to reach 107.96 per cent by 2029-30 as multiple projects near completion, making the flyover a critical piece of forward infrastructure.

The 11.01-kilometre alignment, surveyed by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, includes two station buildings, one major bridge, 16 minor bridges, one Road Under Bridge, and five Limited Height Subways, with a ruling gradient of 1:200 and a maximum permissible speed of 130 kmph. The project is expected to generate additional freight traffic of approximately 0.6 MTPA, supporting the region’s sugar, cement, and industrial clusters.
