Sambalpur Moves Closer to IT Hub Vision

Sambalpur is gaining traction as an emerging technology centre, with land identified for a proposed IT hub backed by an investment of around Rs 200 crore.

The initiative includes the development of an IT park and an IT tower, forming part of the state’s strategy to expand digital infrastructure beyond Bhubaneswar. The push was reinforced during a recent review by Vishal Kumar Dev, who highlighted Sambalpur’s potential to attract multinational companies once core infrastructure is in place.

The broader plan aims to decentralise IT growth across Odisha, with cities such as Rourkela, Jharsuguda, and Berhampur also being positioned as emerging technology hubs.

Beyond infrastructure, the roadmap includes strengthening skills and innovation. A centre of excellence in artificial intelligence is planned at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology to support advanced learning and research. Discussions are also underway with Zoho for skill development initiatives.

Together, these efforts are expected to generate employment, attract investment, and gradually position Sambalpur as a competitive IT destination in western Odisha.
