Namo Bharat Corridor, Meerut Metro to Be Inaugurated on Feb 22

Urban rail connectivity in Uttar Pradesh is set for a significant upgrade as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Namo Bharat corridor and the Meerut Metro. The launch will mark the beginning of operations on a new rapid transit system aimed at improving regional mobility and reducing travel time for commuters in Meerut and nearby areas.

The corridor has been developed as part of the government’s urban transport modernisation initiative, focusing on faster, reliable and high-capacity public transit. The system features indigenous train technology supported by advanced signalling designed to enable high-frequency services and efficient passenger movement during peak hours.

Officials confirmed that extensive trial runs, safety inspections and operational readiness checks have been completed ahead of commissioning. Testing covered system interoperability, reliability and passenger safety, while staff training and certification processes have also been finalised. The network is expected to integrate with existing transport systems to strengthen first- and last-mile connectivity.

Local authorities have issued passenger advisories and implemented coordinated security and traffic management plans to ensure smooth operations on the inauguration day. Services will initially follow a phased rollout, allowing agencies to adjust schedules and capacity based on ridership demand and system performance.

The project forms part of wider efforts to promote sustainable urban mobility, ease congestion and support economic activity by improving access to employment centres and essential services across the region.
