During a visit to Majuli, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the construction of the Majuli–Jorhat bridge and its connecting highway, aimed at accelerating connectivity and development in the island district. He also laid foundation stones and inaugurated multiple projects worth Rs 2,218 crore.
Construction of the Majuli–Jorhat bridge, which had been stalled since September 2024, has now resumed with a target completion date of December 11, 2027. A 702-metre bridge over the Lohit river at Selekghat was also opened, along with upgraded road links under the Asom Mala 1.0 scheme to improve access between Majuli and Lakhimpur.
Key public infrastructure inaugurated includes the academic block and girls’ hostel of Majuli Cultural University (Rs 51 crore), an Integrated District Commissioner’s Office, SSP and DTO offices, a Government Model Degree College, Dakshinpat Satra Museum, and a cultural auditorium.
The CM also distributed seed capital of Rs 10,000 each to 31,952 women entrepreneurs under the MMUA scheme and announced additional beneficiaries under the Orunodoi programme, alongside upgrades to regional road corridors and highway status for key routes.
