The Indian Railways has approved a budget of Rs 5.09 billion for the construction of two major flyovers in Odisha to enhance operational efficiency and alleviate traffic congestion on key railway routes.

In Cuttack district, a 10.89-km rail flyover will be built at a cost of Rs 2.68 billion, connecting Rajathgarh, Radhakishorepur, and Machhapur railway stations. This flyover will allow simultaneous train movements, minimising delays caused by cross-traffic at these busy junctions. The second project, costing Rs 2.4 billion, focuses on the Raipur-Vizianagaram line under the Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR). A 5.5-km flyover will be constructed to address critical capacity constraints and streamline traffic on the Raipur-Vizianagaram line, particularly at the congested Singapur Road-Rayagada section.

This infrastructure development is part of the energy, mineral, and cement corridor of Indian Railways, aimed at increasing traffic capacity and ensuring smoother, uninterrupted train movement. The new flyovers will improve operations in the Khurda Road and Waltair divisions, where major junctions are currently bottlenecks. Additionally, significant yard restructuring work is underway at Bhadrak railway station to further enhance operational efficiency and train management within the East Coast Railway zone.
