GMR Airports plans to build a second terminal and an additional runway at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic, according to SGK Kishore, Executive Director (South) and Chief Innovation Officer. The airport’s annual passenger traffic is expected to grow from 30 million this year to 45 million by 2030, with long-term goals of reaching 100 million passengers. The development of the second terminal is already underway, and the airport’s flight movements, currently at 43 per hour, are projected to rise to 55 per hour within the next 3 to 4 years.
In addition, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has directed GMR Group to accelerate work on the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport in Andhra Pradesh, aiming for completion by June 2026.
A new AI-enabled digital platform, along with the Airport Predictive Operation Centre (APOC), was inaugurated by the Minister to enhance operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction. The platform integrates data from various stakeholders—airlines, ground handlers, and air traffic control—facilitating collaborative decision-making and proactive problem-solving. This system promises to streamline passenger flow, reduce wait times, and provide personalized services. The digital twin platform, initially implemented at Hyderabad, will soon be adopted at Delhi Airport and other GMR-operated airports.
