Jindal Stainless, a leading stainless steel manufacturer, has played a pivotal role in the development of India’s first Vande Metro train, scheduled to be operational from July 2024. The Vande Metro train is a revolutionary step towards enhancing inter-city travel, connecting more than 120 cities across the country. It is specifically designed for urban commuters traveling distances of up to 250 km, with initial routes covering key cities like Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Chennai, Tirupati, Delhi, Rewari, Agra, Mathura, Lucknow, and Kanpur.
One of the key highlights of the Vande Metro train is its lightweight and durable construction, achieved through the use of Jindal Stainless’ tempered 201LN grade high-strength stainless steel. This grade of stainless steel is not only highly resistant to corrosion but also offers superior strength and crash resistance, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.

He emphasized the significance of the transition from ferritic grade to 201LN stainless steel, highlighting its positive impact on reducing the carbon footprint of the Indian Railways. Jindal expressed confidence that the Vande Metro trains would provide a world-class travel experience to passengers.
Following the announcement of Jindal Stainless’ involvement in the Vande Metro project, the company’s shares saw a significant increase, closing 4.4% higher at ₹710 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
