SJVN Limited, a Central public sector enterprise, has secured Letters of Award to develop solar power projects totalling 1,352 MW across four districts in Maharashtra. This endeavour, with an investment of approximately Rs 7,436 crore, signifies a significant move towards bolstering renewable energy capacity in the state. The projects will be executed through SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary, and are part of the Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0.
This initiative aims to solarize 30% of agricultural feeders by 2025, ensuring daytime electricity supply to farmers. It’s a key component of the broader plan to accelerate the implementation of 7,000 MW decentralized solar projects across Maharashtra.
Funding for these projects represents SGEL’s initial contribution to the PM-KUSUM Scheme, with eligibility for Central Financial Assistance covering up to 30% of the project costs. The tender process, managed by MSEB Solar Agro Power Limited, witnessed intense competition, with SGEL securing a significant portion of the total 7,000 MW capacity.
Looking ahead, SJVN aims for ambitious growth, targeting an installed capacity of 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040. This strategic roadmap is in line with the Government of India’s pledge to derive 50% of its power capacity from non-fossil-fuel-based energy sources by 2030, highlighting the nation’s commitment to sustainable and renewable energy expansion.
