Meghalaya Assembly Dome Work Nears Completion

The new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Building is entering a crucial phase, with the installation of its dome structure expected to be completed within this month.

A 200-tonne crane, transported over nearly six weeks from Chennai to Shillong, has arrived on-site and is being readied to lift and position the steel dome. Officials anticipate the installation process to be completed within weeks, marking a key milestone in the project.

Spread across 80 acres in the New Shillong Township, the assembly complex is being developed in phases. The first phase, targeted for completion by July, includes the main hall, offices, ministerial rooms, and essential facilities. Around ₹130 crore has been spent so far, with timelines and machinery mobilisation identified as the primary challenges rather than funding.

Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd is executing this project. Once completed, the new complex is expected to be operational by the autumn session, strengthening Meghalaya’s legislative infrastructure.
