South Central Railway (SCR) has stated that the redevelopment of Secunderabad railway station is progressing steadily, with around 60 per cent of work completed on the Rs 700 crore project. The upgraded station is expected to emerge as a modern, airport-like transit hub upon completion.
Designed to handle nearly 1.5 lakh passengers daily across 180 trains, the project features a two-level air concourse to streamline passenger movement. The first level will serve as a waiting area, while the upper level will house retail outlets, food courts, and leisure spaces.
The redevelopment will also include seamless connectivity to Secunderabad East and West Metro stations through dedicated skywalks, enabling smooth intermodal transfers. Separate entry and exit points, travellators, and full roofing across platforms are aimed at reducing congestion and improving commuter comfort.
Additional features include a multi-level parking facility for over 1,000 cars and 5,000 two-wheelers, along with sustainability measures such as a 5,000 kWp solar power plant, EV charging infrastructure, and rainwater harvesting systems.
Parallel redevelopment at Hyderabad railway station is also underway, focusing on enhanced connectivity, passenger amenities, and modern infrastructure under the Amrit Stations initiative.
