Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has been instructed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed extension of the Orange Line from Kadabagere to Tavarekere village. The move comes in response to long-standing demands from residents of Seegehalli Gate, Channenahalli, and Tavarekere for improved metro connectivity.

The Orange Line’s second corridor currently spans 12.5 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road, featuring nine stations. As part of Namma Metro’s Phase 3, the network expansion plan was outlined in Bengaluru’s Comprehensive Mobility Plan of 2020, identifying major travel corridors for mass rapid transit solutions. Phase 3 consists of two elevated corridors: a 32.15-km route from J.P. Nagar Phase 4 to Kempapura via Outer Ring Road, and the 12.5-km corridor along Magadi Road.

Approved in 2024 at an estimated cost of Rs 15,611 crore, Phase 3 is jointly funded, with the Karnataka government contributing 80-85% and the Union government covering the remainder. Once completed, it will add 44.65 km to Bengaluru’s metro network, expanding the total coverage to 220.2 km.
