Russian steelmaker MMK has started producing rolled metal products with increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion.
The main advantage of weather-resistant steel over carbon structural steel is its increased resistance, owing to the formation of an impermeable oxide film, or protective patina. The company says this patina bonds strongly to the metal, creating a protective layer that blocks oxygen and prevents internal corrosion.
The steel is produced as hot rolled, hot rolled pickled and cold rolled coils and sheets, manufactured according to ASTM A606/A606M-25.
Weather-resistant steel rolled products can be used in bridge construction, shipbuilding, industrial construction and civil engineering as a structural material that requires no painting or other additional corrosion protection.
