Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has inaugurated four infrastructure projects worth around Rs 122 crore in Jorhat and Sivasagar, covering administrative facilities, transport connectivity and educational infrastructure.
The projects include an integrated office complex for the Jorhat District Commissioner, a railway flyover at Chinamara, a new building for Luitporiya Mising Higher Secondary School and a hostel for Sivasagar University. Sarma inaugurated the new DC office in Jorhat and virtually opened the school building and university hostel, having earlier dedicated the Chinamara railway flyover to the public.
The new district administration complex replaces the DC office that had operated from a British-era building. Sarma said the state government is moving administrative offices out of colonial-era structures while retaining their historical value, describing the shift as a new phase for public institutions and noting that the new office would improve delivery of government services and handling of public grievances.
Highlighting the government’s focus on connectivity, Sarma defended the emphasis on bridge construction across Assam, saying decades of connectivity gaps had prevented the fruits of development from reaching people, and that unhindered movement should become the foundation of the state’s next growth phase.
