Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has pitched for greater India-Japan cooperation in semiconductors, electronic components and steel manufacturing, while leading India’s largest-ever business delegation to Japan comprising more than 200 business representatives.
Goyal said India’s expanding electronics ecosystem offers significant scope for greater collaboration and investment, adding that Japanese firms have already invested Rs 1 lakh crore of the approximately Rs seven lakh crore investment target committed in 2025.
During his visit, Goyal met Katsumi Azuma, President and CEO of ROHM Co, in Osaka, and Satoru Katsuno, Chairman of the Central Japan Economic Federation, in Nagoya. He invited Chukeiren members to lead sector-specific delegations to India to deepen engagement in manufacturing, electronics, semiconductors, AI and precision engineering.
The minister also met Hideaki Omura, Governor of Aichi Prefecture, to explore cooperation in trade, investment and industry, focusing on strengthening linkages between Aichi’s industrial ecosystem and Indian businesses. In a separate meeting with Naohide Goto, President of Aichi Steel Corporation, Goyal discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in steel manufacturing and technology, highlighting India’s strong manufacturing ecosystem.
Speaking at the ‘India-Japan Next Generation Economic Partnership: From Chubu to India’ event in Nagoya, Goyal invited Japanese businesses and investors to leverage India’s scale, skilled talent and increasingly investor-friendly business environment. He also met other business leaders including Shingo Ueno, President and CEO at Sumitomo Corporation, and Toshiaki Nagasato, President of Meiji Seika Pharma.
