The Telangana government has launched the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure Project at an estimated cost of Rs 1,090 crore to address heavy traffic pressure on the KBR Park corridor connecting the core city with the IT hub.
As part of the initiative, construction has commenced on 14 major structures, comprising seven multi-level steel flyovers and seven directional underpasses, across six key junctions around KBR Park, aimed at eliminating signal-related stoppages and creating a largely signal-free corridor. Construction is planned for completion within 24 months.
Traffic data shows Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction as the busiest point in the corridor, recording peak-hour traffic of 15,321 Passenger Car Units per Hour, followed by the KBR Park Entrance Junction at 13,516 PCU/Hr. Other junctions — Maharaja Agrasen, Road No. 45 and Film Nagar, each handle close to 10,000 PCU/Hr, while Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital Junction records 5,880 PCU/Hr.
The works have been divided into two packages: Package-1 covers Jubilee Hills Check Post, KBR Park Entrance and Mughdha junctions, while Package-2 covers Road No. 45, Film Nagar, Maharaja Agrasen and Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital junctions.
To facilitate construction, Hyderabad City Police will introduce a one-way traffic system around KBR Park. Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the decision followed detailed traffic studies, trial runs and consultations with GHMC, residents and welfare associations, adding that the temporary arrangement is necessary to accelerate construction and deliver a long-term solution. Once complete, the project is expected to resolve traffic issues at most junctions while reducing bottlenecks at Jubilee Hills Check Post by about 80 per cent.
