ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India has announced the launch of Zagnelis Protect, a premium Zinc-Aluminium-Magnesium coated steel brand designed for high-performance automotive applications, marking a first-of-its-kind manufacturing capability in India.
Proven across European markets, the patented coating technology was previously available in India only through imports. With this launch, AM/NS India becomes the first company to introduce a high-quality ZAM-coated steel brand for automotive use domestically, addressing a segment where 8-10 per cent of critical automotive steel grades used in India are currently imported due to coating and metallurgical complexity.
The initial application will be in motor cups, critical enclosures for direct-current motors used in windows, mirrors, wipers and seats, with each vehicle deploying 20-30 such motors. The product is engineered for broader applications including chassis parts, door inner panels, hood inner panels and decklid inner panels.

Zagnelis Protect offers significantly higher corrosion resistance than conventional galvanised coatings, particularly at cut edges and formed areas, along with self-healing protection, strong drawability and reliable weldability. The launch builds on AM/NS India’s broader ₹60,000 crore expansion project at Hazira, following earlier indigenisation efforts with Magnelis and Optigal steel products.
