The Kumbh Mela authority has granted administrative approval for projects worth ₹993 crore in Nashik, paving the way for significant upgrades to road and bridge infrastructure in the city. These works are being planned in preparation for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, which is expected to draw millions of visitors and place heavy demands on local transport networks.
A key component of the approved projects is the construction of three new bridges along with a down ramp for the existing Gadge Maharaj bridge across the Godavari River. This portion alone is valued at approximately ₹62.8 crore and is expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity, and ensure smoother traffic flow during the religious gathering. The bridges will also strengthen long-term urban mobility for Nashik residents well beyond the festival period.
The broader package of works will include the development of roads, flyovers, and supporting infrastructure aimed at reducing bottlenecks in critical areas. With Nashik set to host one of the world’s largest religious congregations, city planners and engineers are under pressure to deliver robust facilities capable of handling both the sheer scale of visitors and the increased load on civic systems.
For the steel industry, such projects represent a potential boost in demand, given the significant role of structural steel, reinforcement bars, and girders in bridge and flyover construction. Local and national suppliers are expected to benefit from contracts linked to these developments, underscoring the continuing link between religious tourism and infrastructure-led demand for steel in India.
The approval of these projects marks a crucial milestone in Nashik’s preparations for the Kumbh Mela. Once complete, the new bridges and road upgrades are likely to not only facilitate the smooth conduct of the festival but also leave behind a stronger and more resilient urban transport framework for the city.
