Amazon Signs Landmark Warehouse Lease in West Bengal

Amazon Seller Services has entered into a significant 20-year lease agreement for a 559,000 sq ft warehousing facility in Hooghly, West Bengal. The deal, valued at an estimated ₹430 crore in total rentals, highlights the rapid growth of India’s logistics and e-commerce infrastructure, as well as the increasing demand for large-scale industrial spaces.

The facility, one of the largest warehousing spaces taken up by Amazon in the country, will serve as a vital hub to support its expanding operations in eastern India. Strategically located near key transport corridors, the warehouse is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency, improve last-mile delivery, and strengthen the company’s service reach in the region.

Industry experts note that the deal underscores a broader trend of rising investment in warehousing and logistics infrastructure across the country. With the rapid growth of e-commerce and organised retail, developers are seeing strong demand for modern, large-format warehouses designed with automation, sustainability, and efficient storage systems in mind.

For the steel industry, such large warehousing projects represent a significant opportunity. Structural steel is a key material in the construction of industrial buildings, offering durability, scalability, and faster construction timelines. As demand for warehouses continues to expand, steel consumption in the sector is likely to grow in parallel, providing a boost to domestic producers and fabricators.

The West Bengal facility is also expected to generate considerable economic activity in the region, creating employment opportunities during construction as well as in warehouse operations. By committing to a long-term lease, Amazon has reinforced its confidence in India’s consumption-driven growth and the strategic importance of strengthening logistics infrastructure in emerging markets.
