Ajni Railway Station Redevelopment Accelerates Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

The redevelopment of Ajni Railway Station in Nagpur is moving swiftly under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aiming to transform the station into a modern transit hub with enhanced passenger amenities and sustainability features. A striking centerpiece is the 72‑metre‑wide central roof plaza, designed to separate arrival and departure flows and support a range of comfort-enhancing facilities.

To improve mobility across the station, construction is underway for three new foot overbridges, including an 18‑metre‑wide central bridge linking both sides of the station to the roof plaza. Civil works include a G+3 building on the east side, where brickwork and plastering are complete, while a G+2 structure on the west side is progressing following office relocation.

Connectivity enhancements include 21 lifts, 17 escalators, and six travelators to ensure smooth passenger movement. Additional upgrades include high-level platforms (Platforms 4/5 and 6/7), spacious waiting halls, modern surveillance and wayfinding systems, and infrastructure accessible for Divyangjan (differently abled) passengers.

The project also embeds green design principles—solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and water-conservation systems are integral to the overall plan. New staff quarters are being constructed as part of the station overhaul, aligning with green building norms.

As part of the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Ajni’s redevelopment is among several key upgrades under the Central Railway’s Nagpur Division, including the modernisation of Nagpur Junction and other stations with enhanced accessibility, intermodal integration, and passenger-centric design.

The transformation of Ajni Station underscores a larger railway strategy focused on modern infrastructure, seamless passenger experience, and sustainability—all while supporting the region’s mobility and urban development goals.
