India Charges Toward Specialty Steel Growth with Surging Investments

India is building a powerhouse specialty steel industry, positioning itself as a global leader in high-value steel production. With a bold vision to achieve India Specialty Steel Growth, the nation aims to boost annual steel production to 300 million tonnes (MT) and raise per capita consumption to 160 kg by 2030. Strategic investments and policy reforms are already accelerating progress, setting the stage for transformative advancements.

Recent Momentum in India’s Specialty Steel Sector

Government data underscores robust growth: From April to December of FY25, India produced 110.99 MT of crude steel and 106.86 MT of finished steel, reflecting a steady upward trajectory. Central to this expansion is the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme 1.1 for specialty steel, which has galvanized innovation and attracted ₹17,000 crore in investment commitments. These funds will drive domestic manufacturing of advanced steel grades used in automotive, aerospace, and infrastructure sectors, reducing import reliance and enhancing global competitiveness.
