The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has unveiled a plan to enhance connectivity between Noida International Airport and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) through an extension of the Golden Line Metro track. This extension will involve constructing a 5 km elevated stretch from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, which will feature two new stations—Sarita Vihar and Madanpur Khadar. The extension will connect the Golden Line to the Magenta Line at the Botanical Garden Metro Station, providing a seamless and convenient transit route for thousands of passengers.
The estimated cost of the extension is Rs 950 crore, with funding requested from the Yamuna Development Authority. The project aims to improve the connectivity between Noida, Greater Noida, and IGI Airport, reducing travel time and easing the overall commuting experience. The new metro link is expected to offer faster, more direct access between the two airports, benefitting both air travellers and residents.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has set a timeline of three years for the completion of this extension, with work expected to begin once the proposal is approved. Once finished, the extension will significantly reduce travel time between the key hubs, enhancing the region’s transport infrastructure and providing a more efficient route for passengers travelling between the airports. Additionally, it will contribute to the ongoing development and modernization of the region’s metro network.
This project is expected to be a major asset to commuters in the NCR region, providing much-needed connectivity between two major international airports and improving the overall convenience of air travel for passengers.
