Ambuja Cement, part of the Adani Group, has successfully commissioned its 200 MW solar power project in Khavada, Gujarat, and begun transmitting power. This project is expected to help the company reduce its electricity costs by 70%. The Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre (WRLDC) granted clearance for the project on December 12, 2024.
In addition to this, Ambuja Cement plans to commission 806 MW of renewable energy capacity in phases between March and June 2025. This includes 156 MW of wind power in Khavada and 300 MW of solar power in Rajasthan by March 2025, with the remaining 350 MW set to be completed by June 2025.
The solar project marks the first phase of Ambuja Cement’s ambitious ‘Green Energy Project,’ a commitment to investing Rs 10,000 crore in 1 GW of renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, and waste heat recovery systems. As part of its sustainability efforts, the company aims to increase its renewable energy use from 19.1% in 2023 to 60% by 2030.
