Suzlon Group, India’s leading renewable energy solutions provider, has announced securing the country’s largest wind energy order from NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewables arm of NTPC Limited, India’s largest energy conglomerate. The order, totaling 1,166 MW, includes the installation of 370 S144 wind turbine generators (WTGs), each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, across three sites in Gujarat.
This landmark project, involving two NTPC Renewable Energy Limited sites and one IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. site, will power approximately 3 million households. It marks the first direct wind energy order from NGEL and represents Suzlon’s largest-ever cumulative order book, approaching 5 GW as of September 3, 2024.
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the significance of this order in advancing India’s renewable energy transition and marking Suzlon’s return to the PSU customer segment. JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, highlighted the project’s role in setting new benchmarks for future initiatives and contributing to India’s energy self-sufficiency and NGEL’s goal of adding 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032.
Under the agreement, Suzlon will supply the turbines, manage the installation, and provide operations and maintenance services post-commissioning, showcasing the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative by advancing local manufacturing and sustainable energy solutions.
