Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced plans to establish an international airport in Hosur. The proposed airport, capable of handling 30 million passengers annually, will cover over 2,000 acres.
Stalin highlighted Hosur’s rising investment appeal and the state government’s efforts to build modern infrastructure, aiming to make Hosur a key economic hub. He noted that a new master plan for Hosur is nearing completion and emphasized the necessity of establishing an airport to boost the socio-economic development of Hosur, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa underscored the economic benefits of the new airport, given Hosur’s strategic location near Bengaluru and Chennai and its growing manufacturing ecosystem. He mentioned that the project would enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth, benefiting Hosur and neighbouring districts, while also boosting parts of Bengaluru. Rajaa added that Hosur’s weather and location would foster a twin-city ecosystem with Bengaluru, driving growth in both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Rajaa also pointed out Hosur’s proximity to export-import gateways and major business hubs like Chennai, Tiruvallur, Sriperumbudur, and Coimbatore, making it a center for auto and EV manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and electronics. Prominent companies like Tata Electronics, TVS, Ashok Leyland, Titan, and Rolls-Royce (IAMPL) have significant operations in the area.
Dr. J Jeyaranjan, vice-chairperson of the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission, described the airport as a game-changer, enhancing connectivity and attracting investments, solidifying Hosur’s position as a major industrial and economic hub.
Additionally, Tamil Nadu is advocating for the extension of Bengaluru Metro to Hosur. The proposed Bommasandra-Hosur Metro corridor will span 20.5 km, with 11.7 km in Karnataka and 8.8 km in Tamil Nadu.
