Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited has commissioned a 72.5 MW captive renewable energy project for Tata Steel Limited at Kalasar in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project combines large-scale solar generation with advanced technology solutions, supporting Tata Steel’s decarbonisation efforts while adding to India’s renewable energy capacity.
The project is expected to generate 166 million units of green energy annually and offset approximately 1,18,856 tonnes of carbon emissions every year. It uses 1,71,360 solar modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited.
Following commissioning of the Bikaner project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12.3 GW, of which approximately 7 GW is operational — comprising 5.7 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity. Another 5.3 GW, including 2.2 GW of solar and 3.1 GW of wind, is at different stages of implementation and expected to be commissioned in phases over the next six to 24 months.
TPREL provides renewable energy solutions to sectors including data centres, communications, information technology, petrochemicals, steel, automobiles, FMCG and biotechnology, continuing to expand its portfolio in support of India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil-fuel electricity capacity by 2030. The latest captive project also strengthens the renewable energy partnership between Tata Power Renewable Energy and Tata Steel as the steelmaker advances its decarbonisation programme.
